Job Title: Elder in the school                                   CLOSING DATE: November 23 ,2017
DEPARTMENT: Capacity Development Department
STATUS: Seasonal Permanent
SALARY: C/TFN Wage Scale, Level 1-4, commencing on experience

JOB SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the Education Manager of Capacity Development, the Elder in School is responsible for assisting the teachers in the classroom while promoting local history, cultural activities and traditional knowledge through activities (story-telling, culture camps, traditional foods, language, C/TFN Curriculum and Circles).
The Elder in School supports students, parents, the Capacity Team and school staff involved in educational transition to school(s), and provides support in the emotional and spiritual development & competency of the child/youth. Priorities of this position are to ensure the children and staff have a good understanding of the C/TFN Culture, History and Values and Virtues.

QUALIFICATIONS
> Ensuring students receive the support and guidance they require for their educational success; > Working with and supporting the C/TFN Capacity Development Team, K4-9 programs and activities;
> Cooperating with the school administration and staff;
> Supporting and implementing C/TFN culture and traditions;
> Actively promoting cultural learning opportunities by involving students, teachers and parents;
> Will be required to attend meetings, observe, report and make recommendations on behalf of the Capacity Development Team; and serve as C/TFN's delegate/alternate at assigned meetings, workshops and or conferences when requested to do so by the Education Manager; and
> Promote and oversee the implementation of the C/TFN Curriculum at Ghùch Tlâ Community School, C/TFN Values & Virtues, as well as class room circles
> Participate on field trips and Cultural Camps

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT
· Must undertake a Criminal Records Check;
· Immunization up to date records;
· First Aid would be an asset;
· Ability to perform well in an inter-racial environment

An eligibility list will be established from this competition. No compensation will be given for moving costs and must be eligible to work in Canada.
