Environmental Sustainability & Climate Change Coordinator – Term Full Time
Department: Implementation

Standard Hours Bi-Weekly: 75
Start Date: Immediately
End Date: 1 year with possible extension
Salary: Level 8 Step 1 ($3,213.17 bi-weekly)

The Environmental Sustainability and Climate Change Coordinator is responsible for helping Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in Government integrate climate change considerations into policy and planning to ensure future generations maintain a traditional way of life out on the land. The incumbent will work with all aspects of Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in governance and operations, including Housing and Infrastructure, Natural Resources, Communications, Administration, Implementation, Finance, Wellness and Heritage. The Coordinator will provide evidenced-based research, write reports and other correspondence, analyze complex climate change science and provide strategic advice on environmental sustainability and climate change, including any impacts on inherent Aboriginal treaty rights and traditional practices.

Essential Qualifications:
· A post-secondary degree in a relevant field, with a minimum of 3 years' experience working for First Nation, Territorial, Federal Governments or Non-Governmental Organization. Equivalent training and experience may be considered;
· Experience leading policy, legislation and/or research related to climate change, alternative energies and/or environmental sustainability;
· Experience analyzing and researching climate change science, climate change impacts, projections and trend analysis, mitigation and adaptation strategies;
· Experience in stakeholder and project management, dispute resolution and/or negotiations;
· Experience working on internal and intergovernmental/cross-agency policies, strategies, working groups and/or action plans;
· Excellent communication skills (writing, visual, oral);
· Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative internal and external relationships with groups and individuals;
· Ability to identify issues and analyze information to make considered decisions and recommendations.
· Strong mentoring and advocacy skills.

· Experience building intergovernmental relationships;
· Formal knowledge and experience working within First Nation governance structures and processes;
· Knowledge of the values, traditions and culture of the Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in;
· Knowledge of the Umbrella Final Agreement, Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in Final and Self Government Agreements;
· Knowledge of modern land claims and treaties.
· Ability to create public support for important initiatives and projects.

· Willingness to travel as required.
