Fire Smart Crew Leader - Term
Department: Housing and Infrastructure

Standard Hours Bi-Weekly: 75

Salary: Level 4 Step 1 (28.95/hour)

Reporting to the Capital Projects Planner, the Fire Smart Crew Leader will supervise a multi-person crew, to complete the project outlined for the current year. This position will work out in the field and on various types of terrain and in all-weather to assess and manage risk as well as direct the Fire Smart Crew Members to complete the project. The Fire Smart Crew Leader will supervise the Fire Smart Crew Members and assure all health and safety measures are being adhered to at all times. This position will be responsible for some administrative duties, such as reports, checklists and payroll.

Essential Qualifications:
· Experience in providing project direction, coaching and supervision to staff;
· Standard First Aid;
· Chainsaw Safety Course and 1-2 seasons experience running a chainsaw for an extended period of time;
· Knowledge of wildland fire fuels;
· Experience implementing health and safety measures and monitoring staff;
· Computer proficiency including Microsoft applications, research and e-mail correspondence;
· Experience navigating using GPS systems, compass and maps.

Assets:
· Wilderness First Aid;
· Technical Free Falling and brushing certificate, or a related certification;
· Previous experience working on Fire Smart project(s).

Conditions of Employment:
· Criminal record check;
· Standard First Aid Certificate at time of hire; Willing to get Wilderness First Aid or Specialized First Aid certificate;
· Valid Class 5 Drivers license;
· Chainsaw Safety Course and/or Technical Tree falling and brushing certification(s);
· ATV Safety;
· Willingness to obtain bear aware safety and other related coursework as identified.
