Position: Communications Officer
Department: Administration
Term: Full Time to March 31, 2021

Kwanlin Dün First Nation (KDFN) is seeking a Communications Officer. Reporting to the Communications Manager, the Communications Officer will provide strategic communications planning, web and social media management, media monitoring, publication writing, and facilitate access to programs and services within the KDFN government.

Essential Qualifications:
· Diploma in communications, journalism, public relations or related field of study;
· Knowledge and experience in the design, implementation and execution of marketing, communication and public relations services and activities, preferably in a government setting
· Post-secondary coursework, knowledge, or demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas: journalism, professional writing, media relations, advertising, publishing, multi-media production (such as audio, video, design, etc.) and/or social media
· Knowledge and skill in the design, implementation and execution of marketing, communication and public relations services and activities, preferably in a government setting;
· Experience writing for a variety of audiences and different media.
An equivalent combination of post-secondary education, training and experience in the above noted areas will be equally considered.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Ability to manage a complex workload and work successfully with tight deadlines;
· Attention to detail and ability to exercise good judgment;
· Ability to maintain strict confidentiality;
· Time management, research skills and effective teamwork ability;
· Ability to establish and maintain an effective communications network that meets strategic plan initiatives and communication objectives;
· Ability to work independently, completing assigned tasks and meeting established deadlines;
· An understanding of the importance of guiding government documents such as the KDFN Final and Self-government agreements and KDFN's Strategic Plan are an asset;
· Knowledge of Kwanlin Dün First Nation people, history & culture and how to reach KDFN's target audience;

Conditions of Employment: satisfactory pre-employment criminal record check with vulnerable sector clearance; a valid class 5 Yukon drivers' license.

Job Requirements: occasional travel within the City of Whitehorse.

Salary: $33.69 – $42.18 (Level 5) plus employer-paid benefits package
