Fish and Wildlife Junior Steward - Term Full Time (June 4 -August 31, 2018)
Natural Resources, Fish & Wildlife Branch

Salary: Level 1 Step 1 ($20.54/hr.)

This position has been created to expose youth to the opportunities within the renewable resource field and provide them with experience in that field. The summer student will be assisting the Fish and Wildlife Department with a wide variety of tasks and duties. These include program planning, scheduling, field work, administration duties and reporting. The student will spend time both in the office setting and "out in the field" with the Branch employees. They will be required to work flexible hours and may be expected to attend events which will require overnights away from the community.

SKILLS TO BE GAINED:
· Leadership and youth mentorship skills;
· Report-writing skills;
· Computer skills;
· Environmental monitoring skills;
· Experience with wildlife surveys;
· Field data collection and management;
· Light carpentry and camp maintenance skills;
· Outdoor wilderness skills and backcountry experience;
· Knowledge of TH Final Agreement.

ESSENTIALS:
· Must be an unemployed TH citizen, ages 18-30;
· Must have an interest in the field of Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Biology or related;
· Must have participated in TH First Fish, Moose Camp and/or First Hunt events;
· Basic knowledge of computers;
· Must be able to work independently and in a team environment;
· Good communication skills, both oral and written;
· Must be punctual and reliable;
· Responsible with ability to ensure youth's safety and well-being at culture camps;
· A positive role model for youth; must lead a healthy lifestyle.

ASSETS:
· Experience using a database;
· Good note-taking skills are an asset;
· Experience operating an ATV;
· Experience operating a motor boat.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
· Mandatory confidentiality is a condition of employment for all Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in personnel. Failure to meet this requirement could result in dismissal;
· Valid Class 5 Driver's license and clear driver's abstract;
· Standard First Aid or willingness to obtain within first 4 weeks of employment;
· Bear Aware training or willingness to obtain within first 4 weeks of employment;
· Willingness to take courses such as ATV Training, Boat Safety and others that may arise for the position.
