Artifact Cataloguer – Summer Student

Reporting to the Collections Manager, the Heritage Artifact Cataloguer will work towards processing Tr'ondëk Hwëchin's artifact and archival collection, maintain the conservation program and assist the Collections Manager with related duties as required. Work completed by the Cataloguer will help in preserving Tr'ondëk Hwëchin's heritage and language collection.

Essential Qualification:
· Must be a TH citizen between 15 and 30 years of age, currently enrolled in school and returning to school in the fall. Must be willing to register in the YCW online candidate inventory and complete all YCW online reports;
· Ability to organize and prioritize work commitments and meet deadlines;
· Ability to work in a fast paced environment;
· Knowledge of Yukon First Nations heritage;
· Strong verbal and written communication skills;
· Detail oriented and self-motivated;
· Strong computer skills including image formatting software, scanning equipment, word processing;
· Ability to use basic office equipment.

Skill to be gained:
· Industry standards of museum artifact management and an introduction to archival standards and practices including:
· Accessioning, inventorying, cataloguing, photography and preventative conservation;
· Chenhall's Nomenclature;
· Rules of Archival Description;
· Digital photograph and Photoshop editing;
· Artifact handling procedures;
· Fundamentals in Artifact preservation and conservation;
· Hygrothermograph use.

· Proficient with Microsoft Excel
· Proficient with desk top publishing;
· Related work experience;
· Knowledge of TH history, culture and social structure;
· Familiarity with the Rules for Archival Description and Chenhall's Nomenclature is an asset.
