Position: Community Education Liaison Coordinator (CELC)
Department: Education
Term: Full Time starting August 21, 2018

Kwanlin Dün First Nation (KDFN) is seeking a qualified Community Education Liaison Consultant. Reporting to the Manager of Education , the incumbent will be responsible for providing positive support and guidance to Kwanlin Dün students, parents, caregivers and school staff members, will coordinate services programs and cultural connections; perform administrative and project work and perform other related duties as required.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills with the ability to foster and maintain effective relationships with KDFN students and their families.

Based out of the respective public school and the House of Learning in the Kwanlin Dün community, the CELC will provide support to KDFN students and families throughout the year (September through August), while school is in and out of session. Please be aware that this position does not follow the school calendar.

Qualifications & Experience
• Degree in Counselling, Social Work, Education or related field with significant experience working with First Nations students, preferably in a school setting; Education Support Program completion, or equivalent training with extensive experience working with First Nation children may also be considered.
• Knowledge, training and experience with basic counselling methods and referral processes;
• Demonstrated conflict management and dispute resolution skills;
• Experience with planning and coordinating projects and events;
• Finance management experience;
• Proven record of experience working successfully with school aged students aged 5 to 19 in a broad range of subjects with varying academic abilities;
• Ability to effectively interact and relate to students and establish and maintain trust based relationships with students, parents and caregivers;
• Solid writing skills including the ability to complete assessments, keep daily student records and write monthly reports on student progress etc.;
• Knowledge of Yukon school environments and the services/supports available in the public education system.

Knowledge of Aboriginal Peoples history with residential school and education systems and familiarity with the Kwanlin Dün First Nations history, culture, goals and aspirations is required for success in this position.

Note: An equivalent combination of post-secondary coursework, training, workshops and significant experience will be considered.

Conditions of employment: Valid Class 5 driver's license, personal vehicle and business insurance;
Valid first aid & CPR
Satisfactory criminal records check with vulnerable sector search PRIOR to commencement of employment

Salary: $ 59,350 to $74,310 (Level 5) plus benefits, subject to 6 months of probation
