Governance Policy Advisor - 3 Year - Term Full Time (with possibility of extension)


Implementation, Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in Government

Salary: Level 9 Step 1 ($89,724)

The Governance Policy Advisor is responsible for providing evidenced-based research, writing reports, dockets and other correspondence, analyzing and providing advice on policies, legislation and a wide range of Implementation issues, including inherent Aboriginal treaty rights, land and resources, fish and wildlife, health, child welfare, social services, education, justice, finance and heritage.

Essential Qualifications:
· An advanced post-secondary degree (Masters or PhD) in a relevant field (law, social sciences, business, health, environmental studies, humanities) or equivalent experience;
· Experience leading policy, legislation and/or research projects;
· Strong research, analysis, and/or project management skills;
· Experience in stakeholder management, dispute resolution and negotiations;
· Excellent communication skills (writing, visual, oral) including presentations;
· Finance/budgeting and proposal writing skills;
· Strong supervisory and problem solving skills;
· Demonstrated leadership and decision-making ability;
· Excellent understanding of First Nation, Territorial, and Federal Government operations;
· Proven ability to work independently and in a team environment with minimal supervision.


Assets:
· Experience working on high-profile internal and intergovernmental/cross-agency policies, strategies and action plans;
· Experience building intergovernmental relationships;
· Knowledge of research and policy tools and methods;
· Formal knowledge/experience working within First Nation governance structures and processes;
· Knowledge of the values, traditions and culture of the Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in;
· Knowledge of the Umbrella Final Agreement, Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in Final and Self Government Agreements;
· Knowledge of modern land claims and treaties;
· 3 years experience working for First Nation, Territorial, or Federal Governments.


Conditions of Employment:
· Mandatory confidentiality is a condition of employment for all Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in personnel. Failure to meet this requirement could result in dismissal.(same for all positions)
· Criminal Record Check.
· Attendance at General Assemblies, and Community Meetings as required.
· Willingness to travel as required.
