Reporting to the Children and Youth Services Supervisor, this position is responsible for implementing and coordinating developmental, social, recreational and cultural program activities for TH children between the ages of eight (8) and twelve (12) years of age. Programs include Summer Youth Camps during the summer school break, a year-round Healthy Active Youth Program and the Big Brothers Big Sisters In-School Mentoring Program during the school year. This position works out of the Community Support Centre with programming based out of various Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in and community venues. The Coordinator accomplishes program goals and objectives by identifying and developing daily activities that help the youth gain or enhance personal competencies such as life skills, self-confidence and self-awareness, social and relationship skills, group interaction and conflict resolution capabilities, problem-solving and leadership skills, and opportunities to learn traditional knowledge and explore Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in First Nation culture. The Coordinator will ensure the delivery of programming activities through a mentorship approach with the assistance of TH Elders/citizens and community support people. This position is also responsible for ensuring YG regulations and/or Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in policies are followed at all times.

Essential Qualifications:

· Minimum High School Grade 12 and Certificate/ Diploma/Degree in Education, Child Development, Counselling, Psychology or Social Work field and/or demonstrated completion of related coursework/certification;
· Experience working with pre-adolescent (8-12 years) children in a summer camp, outdoor education program, extracurricular or afterschool program environment;
· Experience planning and coordinating youth activities, recreational programs, group excursions.
· Experience working in a team environment;
· Experience or knowledge in working with First Nation children/youth and families;
· Or an equivalent combination of education, experience, skills and abilities;


· Knowledge of youth development theory, principles and practices with a specific focus on pre-adolescent (middle year) youth as well as, an understanding of the social-emotional and developmental challenges that may be associated with this age group (8-12);
· Knowledge of YG Youth Child Care Regulations.
· Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with families, colleagues and community members.
